Good Morning all Players, Coaches, and Parents,
The holiday season will be quickly upon us. Lightning and Island Garden are about more than basketball. Sure, we are one of the largest basketball programs in the country that has been in existence for 30 years.
An important part of our mission is to serve as role models and active contributors to the betterment of our community. We want to bring together those concepts in our newest campaign.
The Lexibean Foundation was created in memory of Alexandra Falabella who passed away in 2009 when she was nine years old during her treatment for Medullablasttoma (brain cancer).
We are assisting Holy Family CYO of Hicksville in raising funds that will be used to help families deal with the holidays through the Lexibean Foundation. Cancer takes so much not only from the children who suffer from the dreaded disease but also from the families. The treatments can be devastating both emotionally and financially which in turn takes away from meeting basic expenses. That includes paying for holiday gifts for the children of impacted families. The Foundation provides funds to pay for holiday gifts so that children will not miss out on some of the joy that the holiday season brings to children.
Lightning, Island Garden, and NY Metropolitan AAU will lead the way in making donations. We hope that as many people as possible will join us in supporting families dealing with cancer.
You can forward a check payable to the Lexibean Foundation to Island Garden, 45 Cherry Valley Avenue, West Hempstead, NY 11551 and we will send the checks to the Foundation. We are also working on a matching donation through a large employer here on Long Island. You can also donate via Venmo: @IslandGarden (The logo is on the profile). Please specify donation and include your full name and email.
Let’s come together to help those in need this holiday season.
