CLINICS and CAMPS
Do you want to have fun and become a better player? It does not matter how much experience you have. What does matter is that you have the desire to improve and prepare for the upcoming season. Everyone will be back playing whether it be with your school, Super League or CYO. We have top basketball coaches ready to work with you in a positive and constructive manner where having fun and increasing your ability are the goals. There is still time to register for as little as one day or for several weeks.
All of our staff are dedicated to making those who attend these Clinics/Camps, better athletes and basketball players. We hope you take advantage of the outstanding training opportunities we offer throughout the year.
COACH JIM FOX Basketball coach at the Division 1 level for 19 years. Jim began his coaching career as a coach with the Long Island Lightning Program. He spent 13 years as an assistant at Davidson College in North Carolina. Davidson played in several NCAA Tournaments during that time. Jim recruited many players that went on to professional careers, none more well known then 2-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry. Jim and Steph still have a friendship to this day.
Jim continued his career in Boone, North Carolina as the Head Coach at Division 1 Appalachian State. Jim built that program over his time there and rescued them from NCAA sanctions and put them in position to compete for titles in the very competitive Sun Belt Conference.
Jim has now returned to his roots on Long Island. Jim has been known as someone who has a knack for developing players – for finding that diamond in the rough and helping them achieve their dreams of playing basketball for their high school or college.
COACH BILL HARKINS He coached St. Mary’s High school for eight years during which he won (1) State Championship, (2) Long Island Championships. Coach Harkins is an extremely hard worker who always has been extremely dedicated to the development of his players, many of whom went on to play college basketball at all levels. Few coaches know more than Coach Harkins as to what is needed to be successful at the high school level. He is proud to say “I got my start at Long island Lightning”.
COACH KANE Long Island Native, 2 time Top 10 Nationally Ranked High School Basketball Player, 1,000-point scorer, DI Basketball Player with Scholarship to Lehigh University, Played 5 years in the LI Empire State Games.
COACH LEIGHTON Joe was first introduced to AAU basketball when he began to play for the Long Island Lightning in 6th grade, and would continue to travel around the country playing AAU basketball until his senior year of high school. He played 5 years of varsity basketball at Garden City High School, earning All-County honors his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. His senior season he was Conference A1 Player of the Year, had the most made 3’s on Long Island, and broke Garden City’s records for 3’s made in a game, season, and career.
After graduating from Garden City High School, he spent three years playing at Middlebury College, each year competing in the DIII NCAA tournament. Prior to the start of his senior season, he suffered a season ending injury. Due to this, he decided to get his Masters in Education while playing a Grad season at The City College of New York.
Joe is now a teacher in the Garden City School District and enjoys helping kids achieve their goals and dreams through both coaching and teaching.
